He was born in Istanbul, 1960. He has begun photography in 1979. He has concentrated his work by participating in society activities in 1985.
In between 1987-1990, he has performed publications and research studies in the Publication Department of IFSAK (the Association of Istanbul Photography and Cinema Amateurs). He has opened various exhibitions and organized slide shows.
He has tended towards photography literature and researches after 1992. He has attended several symposiums, panels and communes. He has publised critic and research articles on photography in art magazines such as Milliyet Arts and Shows, IFSAK Photography and Cinema Magazine, REFO Photography Magazine and etc.
He is a researcher on the History of Photography and prepares lecture notes on that subject. He has been continuing his positions as an instructor on “the History of Photography and Images” in several photography institutions. He has been accepted as the member of Royal Photographic Society of United Kingdom in 1992.
He has acted as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of IFSAK during the 1995-1996 term. He is a member of BASAF (the Association of the Art of Photography of Balikesir), FOTOGEN (the Association of Art of Photography) and the honorary member of IFSAK.
In 1996, he has been presented “the Photo of the Year Award” by the TRUVA Culture and Art Association.
In between 2003-2005, he has acted as the Istanbul Representative of the National Museum of Photography of Balikesir and M. Emin Tan Photography Library established within the structure of BASAF (the Association of the Art of Photography of Balikesir). In 2008, he has been reassigned to as the representative with the decision of the Board of Directors. The Turkish Photography Publications Library established by him after a work of 20 years long, has been embraced by Altin Koza A.S. of the Metropolitan Municipality of Adana and now exhibited in “Adana Museum of Cinema”.
He has acted as the coordinator in the visual bank of from “Print Photobank Turkey” January 2000 to June 2001. He has continued his professional duties from 2001 to January 2004 as the Visual Consultant and Sales Representavie of Diaturk. He serves as the Photography Instructor and Wedding Photographer and writes literary stories on ptohography.
“JUDAISM IN TIME AND SPACE”
It is a demonstration of the photo exhibition themed “Judaism in Time and Space” opened in Schneidertempel Art Center between September 11 – 28, and which Alberto Modiano is realized as a result of the three-year study.
Alberto Modiano engaged in photo art for 27 years documents by photographing the religious rituals of the Jewish community of Istanbul for the last 10 years. This artist deeply interested in the history of photo art, for his exhibition;
“With a view of a photographer and a visual historian, I want to transfer, with the photo art language, the today’s customs and traditions of the Jews in Turkey and their application forms, who belong to the world’s first monotheistic religion. I believe that it will be an important legacy to be left to the future regarding both the city culture of Istanbul and our culture of living together. On the other hand, I think that documenting the implementation of religious ceremonies Istanbul Jewish community, decreasing the population from day to day, will eliminate the obscurities about this ancient culture and that it will serve to be equipped with more accurate information about Judaism.
Cohabitation culture is fed from recognizing each other. Those visited to this exhibition will have the chance to see Turkish Sephardic, Ashkenazi even a year of religious life cycle of Italian Jews. We have discussed for main headings the religious rituals of the Jews living in Istanbul in book we have prepared and in ”Judaism in Time and Space” exhibition. Religious holidays, religious practices, religious concepts and the traditional practices in the last section have been described, he says.
We witnessed in many religions and cultures living side by side in Istanbul and their interaction with each other in this exhibition consisting of black and white photographs. We wish to create an opportunity for this show to share the wealth of this land once again.
The book consisting of 114 pages with this show will be introduced and can be signed.
